Psychotherapy with Julia

My Approach

I know that it can be daunting to start therapy and tell your story. My goal is to create a space imbued with openness, curiosity, trust and compassion.

From this non-judgmental and reflective stance, we work to change the patterns in your narrative that are no longer serving you.

As a therapist, I’m thoughtful and inquisitive. I’ve always been interested in the “why” of the world and find joy in the process of gaining understanding. My background is in psychodynamic psychotherapy, EMDR, CBT, and mindfulness based approaches.

Therapy looks a little different for everyone, and we will work together to incorporate elements from these treatment modalities that are the best fit for your individual goals.

It’s a privilege to join you in uncovering the nuance and complexity of your story. My role is to walk alongside you as you embark on this journey of personal growth.

About Me

Before I was a therapist, I worked as a yoga teacher for several years. From this experience, I bring an appreciation for the connection between mind and body. This sensibility influences how I understand you and your experience in the world.

During this time, I recognized the value in using the “here-and-now,” which drew me to psychodynamic psychotherapy and body-based approaches like EMDR. In yoga classes, this was observing how reactions to challenges on the mat mirrored those outside of the yoga studio and learning to tune into the body to better understand the self.

In therapy, it looks like noticing together how patterns in your relationships play out in the therapeutic relationship and then having the opportunity to try new ways of relating in a safe and supportive setting. In addition, we will pay attention to how you experience the world through both your mind and your physical body.

Wanting to create a space for personal growth and transformation for people on a deeper level, I found my way from the yoga studio to graduate school and eventually to private practice.

Education & Certifications

I graduated from a two-year certificate program in Adult Psychodynamic Psychotherapy through the Denver Institute for Psychoanalysis. In addition, I have advanced training in EMDR, EFT, CBT and MET-CBT.

I received a Bachelor of Science (BScH) degree from Queen’s University in Ontario, Canada and later earned my Master of Social Work (MSW) at the University of Denver Graduate School of Social Work.

I completed my graduate internships at the University of Colorado Outpatient Psychiatry Clinic. After graduation, I continued on as a full-time therapist in that clinic where I received additional training and mentorship while providing supervision for social work graduate students and psychiatry residents.

I have been in private practice since 2020 and continue to serve as a clinical faculty member in the Department of Psychiatry in the CU School of Medicine.
